Case Studies in Quality

In response to feedback that suggested that case studies could be helpful, this event was themed "Case Studies in Quality."

The lineup of speakers was:

  • Susan Gorveatte offered a case study about a client "How ISO Changed our Company."  You can read up on this in an article written by Susan in Quality Progress (Nov. 2016).

  • Dan Pittman discussed Chester---one of just a few municipalities to implement ISO9001. Many of us are exposed to quality through the manufacturing sector, but quality applies everywhere, especially in government. Dan discussed how implementing a QMS in government is similar to, and different from the private sector. He also talked about the current process of transitioning to ISO9001:2015.

Cruising Lean: A Look at Harmony of the Seas

January 25, 2017

How do you keep 8,880 people happy on a boat? Efficiently. Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas is currently the largest cruise ship at sea and it requires tremendous effort to satisfy customers each day. Spend some time with our presenter, Christopher Anstey to learn about some of the tools and techniques viewed during an all access tour of Harmony of the Seas. Explore areas not accessible by guests and see some of the high tech (and low tech) solutions employed to ensure a successful operation.

Presenter: Christopher Anstey

Mr. Anstey has been involved in quality for the past 10 years as a member of the financial services industry and is currently serving as Chair for ASQ Section 411 Maritimes. Leading many quality and lean initiatives such as process auditing, visual management, and Kanban, he’s been able to apply a wide variety of problem solving methods to find the right solution. A Random Talk on Quality - Joint Webinar with Quality Management

October 13, 2016

This one hour session takes you on an audience-directed stroll through topics related to quality, communication, and institutional difficulties. This is a look at the soft side of quality, performed in a creative manner that you probably have never seen before. Sometimes all we need is a twist to our outlook to make a difference, to reach a new level of commitment to improvement. Rather than focus on a single topic, this fast moving talk engages participants by asking them to listen and think. The slides are limited, to allow freer thinking. Participants choose the very order of (up to) 16 subjects based on visual hints, avoiding the usual ‘death by PowerPoint’ scenario. This talk is a creative attempt to look at where we are and how we got here. Where may we go if we take hold of our future and make something of it?

Presenter: Douglas Wood
